Stats report

As promised, here’s the follow-up to my web traffic challenge. In October, I ran two promos of my new website, The Writer’s Plan.
First off, I announced the site at one of my favourite communities: Books & Writers. The announcement was posted on Oct 12, and there was a jump in visits. From zero [...]

Tactics complete

Tomorrow, I’m off to the Sunday session at Surrey Internations Writers’ Conference (SiWC). And yes, I’m happy to report I have completed several of my ‘tactics’ from my Writer’s Business Plan, which I’ve been using to stay on track to reaching my goals. (Remember, you can see all about planning at my website: The Writer’s [...]

New ‘Plan’; revised plan

I’m very close to formally launching my new project, The Writer’s Plan!! I’ve taken all my notes and prior blogs about writer business plans and built a dedicated site, including templates and an online guidebook. I’m very exciting about putting the word out next week, after finishing off a few odds and ends this weekend.

Next projects….

I have a number of next projects on the brain… Traveller production is rolling along, and the heavy lifting has now been taken over by the very talented artist, who I only know at this point as Maria. (Check out her Manga Memoirs gallery here.) And of course, by my brilliant editor, Morgan.

Here’s a short list of basic conduits: web, in person, print, media, web2 [...]

Review time!

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about the steps for the business plan, so I thought before I went on to the next topic, I’d do a quick review. So far, we’ve taken a look at dreams, done a situational analysis, talked about audience and gone over the four Ps… product, promotion, positioning and [...]

New Year, New Computer, New Concept

To start the New Year, I set up my new computer. What a chore! Actually, not so bad except when my Internet connection slowed to the speed of molasses in January. Which is quite appropriate considering its January and I have an unusual amount of snow — two feet.
Of course, this is a perfect time [...]

The 4 Peas

Okay, so this isn’t actually about the charming vegetable, but I can never figure out how to do a plural of a letter. How about The 4 Ps?

This is a carry-over from my marketing days (which would be University). I can’t exactly recall what the 4 Ps were, I think they were Product, Positioning, Price and Promotion. And if this isn’t what they are, let’s pretend.

The audience Pt2: split decision

It’s been a few weeks, and I’ve thought about my target audience. Despite the fact I know it’s smarter to focus on a single target, I’ve realized I’m not ready cut away my second audience yet. Here’s a mini-definition of both.

“The audience? The audience?”

In the wonderful film, Strictly Ballroom, Scott Hastings claims that although his flashy ballroom dance steps weren’t regulation, the audience loved it. And that should matter.

His dance instructor doesn’t agree. “The audience? The audience?” he says. “What would they know?”
