Traveller now done!

Today, I approved the last of the letters for Traveller; the pencils, inks, tones are all done. I’m pretty sure all that’s left is adding the title to page one, the credits, and then… launch!! I’ve heard most of the other memoirs are already done. I’m hoping the whole thing will be ready very soon. [...]

Next projects….

I have a number of next projects on the brain… Traveller production is rolling along, and the heavy lifting has now been taken over by the very talented artist, who I only know at this point as Maria. (Check out her Manga Memoirs gallery here.) And of course, by my brilliant editor, Morgan.

Traveller journey begins!

Production has now started on my next comic project, Traveller! This is another initiative of the Zeros2Heroes folks, under a project called Manga Memoirs. Traveller will become part of an anthology of eight short manga that tells stories of Canadians and their connections with Japan – the place, the people, the culture.
Traveller is the story [...]

Two days; two treaments

In the saga of Rip Current, the latest task has been to write a three-page treatment for Rip Current – the movie and a three-page treatment for Rip Current – the five-season TV series. Factoring in the deadline and the rest of my life, that meant I had two days – November 7 & 8 – to get the bulk of the work done.

Rip Current in the news!

Well, here’s the first newspaper coverage of Rip Current and hopefully just the beginning for my beloved comic. Me and my fellow comic winner, Nick, made the local paper. The Coquitlam Now put mini-versions of us on the cover and ran a near full-page story and pic on the inside.

Progress report

I thought I’d better give a quick update on the production of my comic, Rip Current.

We’re well into production on the comic, and what a process… lots of decisions as to colouring, setting, character designs, page layouts, etc. It’s been really busy for me, and extra busy for the artists, who have to do a whole lot of work!

I actually won!!

YES!! It is I, maria the dreamer a.k.a. carmen wright, winner of week 5 for Canada: Comic Creation Nation!!

The community of comic writers, artists and fans voted me in! This means my treasured story, Rip Current, will be produced as a 22-page colour comic and published online at the amazing Zeros2Heroes website.

More on the comic process…

Voting has begun for the Canada: Comic Creation Nation contest over at Zeroes 2 Heroes. The community is voting in a new comic a week, which will then go on to be produced and published online. They’ll do this until they run out of grant money, which will be a few months.

Building a comic

I’ve disappeared for a while. Been busy building a comic called Rip Current.

Rip Current is based on an idea I had years ago for an online serialized illustrated novel. It wasn’t that tough to imagine it as a graphic novel, but let me tell you, a whole lot tougher to actually put it together. Even my screenwriting background couldn’t quite prepare me for the process.
