Spring WRITING fever that is!
Not that I’m feverishly writing. Still, at the rate things have been going lately, any writing is good writing. Chapter books? Not so much. But, a manuscript that I’ve been long wanting to work on has been calling to me this spring and I have a) got a new little Acer [...]

Tactics complete
Tomorrow, I’m off to the Sunday session at Surrey Internations Writers’ Conference (SiWC). And yes, I’m happy to report I have completed several of my ‘tactics’ from my Writer’s Business Plan, which I’ve been using to stay on track to reaching my goals. (Remember, you can see all about planning at my website: The Writer’s [...]
Traveller journey begins!
Production has now started on my next comic project, Traveller! This is another initiative of the Zeros2Heroes folks, under a project called Manga Memoirs. Traveller will become part of an anthology of eight short manga that tells stories of Canadians and their connections with Japan – the place, the people, the culture.
Traveller is the story [...]
General update…
Well, my new website is now built. Whew!! It’s nice to have everything in one place and hopefully looking seriously professional. Because, of course, I am a serious professional. :]
Okay, latest update on Rip Current. I am now proofing the book in its online reader. It will be launched along with 14 other comics, hopefully before the end of August.
The 4 Peas
Okay, so this isn’t actually about the charming vegetable, but I can never figure out how to do a plural of a letter. How about The 4 Ps?
This is a carry-over from my marketing days (which would be University). I can’t exactly recall what the 4 Ps were, I think they were Product, Positioning, Price and Promotion. And if this isn’t what they are, let’s pretend.
The audience Pt2: split decision
It’s been a few weeks, and I’ve thought about my target audience. Despite the fact I know it’s smarter to focus on a single target, I’ve realized I’m not ready cut away my second audience yet. Here’s a mini-definition of both.
“The audience? The audience?”
In the wonderful film, Strictly Ballroom, Scott Hastings claims that although his flashy ballroom dance steps weren’t regulation, the audience loved it. And that should matter.
His dance instructor doesn’t agree. “The audience? The audience?” he says. “What would they know?”
Progress report
I thought I’d better give a quick update on the production of my comic, Rip Current.
We’re well into production on the comic, and what a process… lots of decisions as to colouring, setting, character designs, page layouts, etc. It’s been really busy for me, and extra busy for the artists, who have to do a whole lot of work!
I actually won!!
YES!! It is I, maria the dreamer a.k.a. carmen wright, winner of week 5 for Canada: Comic Creation Nation!!
The community of comic writers, artists and fans voted me in! This means my treasured story, Rip Current, will be produced as a 22-page colour comic and published online at the amazing Zeros2Heroes website.
More on the comic process…
Voting has begun for the Canada: Comic Creation Nation contest over at Zeroes 2 Heroes. The community is voting in a new comic a week, which will then go on to be produced and published online. They’ll do this until they run out of grant money, which will be a few months.
